Curiosity Dies Where Hatred Begins
Everyone is ignorant - it bonds us. The danger starts when frustration replaces curiosity and we stop learning and start condemning instead.
The more frustrated I become while trying to understand or master something, the easier it is to abandon the pursuit altogether. What begins as confusion slowly hardens into resentment. Then anger. Eventually, there comes a point where the mind stops asking questions and instead decides: I will never understand. What follows is a growing sense of ignorance. For some people, especially those driven more by emotion than reflection, that ignorance mutates into hatred.
Hatred is what I believe Charlie Kirk represented.
During a short ride with my manager, he suddenly became emotional while reading a live update on his phone. “Charlie Kirk is dead. They shot him,” he said quietly.
At the time, I had no idea who Charlie Kirk was. I had never heard his name, never seen a clip of him online, never encountered his content. But seeing my manager visibly disturbed made me curious enough to look him up myself.
What I found wasn’t ignorance. It was something far more corrosive: anger disguised as certainty. Hatred disguised as conviction.
Ignorance sounds like a child asking, “Why is your skin darker than mine?” It is rooted in curiosity — a lack of knowledge seeking understanding.
Hatred sounds like, “Your black skin is not beautiful.”
One question seeks truth. The other seeks superiority.
Curiosity is human. Ignorance is universal. Every person alive lacks understanding in some area of life. That reality connects us more than it divides us.
Hatred is different. Hatred tears down others to elevate oneself. It feeds on envy, insecurity, and fear. It is parasitic by nature, surviving only by attaching itself to division and resentment.
What I’ve learned, both from others and from myself, is that everyone is entitled to their beliefs and opinions. People have the right to disagree, to think differently, and to live according to their convictions.
But no one is entitled to spread hatred.
I can coexist with people who are ignorant because ignorance can evolve into understanding. Curiosity leaves room for growth.
Hatred does not.
And those consumed by hatred are people I would rather burn bridges with than walk beside.
